Following the success of Equator in 2022, Equator 2.0 ran in 2023 to sustain the EQUATOR mission to enhance equity and inclusion in Geography, Earth, and Environmental science (GEES) disciplines.
Equator 2.0 aimed to:
- improve access and participation by delivering a ring-fenced research summer school for minoritized ethnic undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students; and
- increase retention and improve student experience by creating a targeted mentoring network pairing ethnic minority students with mentors from both industry and academia.
The Equator 2.0 Research Summer School took place from the 3rd to 7th July 2023 at the University of Birmingham, and the Equator 2.0 Mentoring Network took place from Autumn 2023-Spring 2024. Initial feedback has been incredibly positive – watch this space for evaluation results.
